This week’s email is short & sweet with a quick safety note, followed by special shout-outs, OOO dates, and some business updates.
First, I want to point out if you haven’t heard yet that next Monday, April 8th, North America will be experiencing a total solar eclipse. More specifically, NJ will see a partial eclipse starting around 2pm, with the peak aka 90% of the sun obscured by the moon around 3:25pm, and ending around 4:30pm.
The reason I bring this up is of course for your pet’s safety! Here’s a few things to keep in mind:
- Although cats and dogs don’t typically stare at the sun, it’s especially important not to allow them to do so during a solar eclipse because it could cause eye damage (same with humans!). Perhaps keeping them indoors to prevent this altogether is the best option.
- As the moon begins to cover the sun, it will appear as if it’s dawn or dusk, and this may confuse or frustrate your pets (some nocturnal animals may even think it’s nighttime). Just like with fireworks or thunderstorms, your pet may become anxious so feel free to comfort them before, during, and after if you notice any signs of discomfort.
- Pets can read and match our own reactions and emotions, so if they feel we become anxious, they may too. Stay calm during this very unique phenomenon. It will pass!
- Another reason why the safest place for your pet during the solar eclipse is indoors is because of the crowds formed by viewing parties. They may trigger anxiety in your pets and increase the likelihood that they’ll run away.
- If you do bring them outside during a viewing party, check beforehand to make sure their ID tags and microchip info is up-to-date in case they get spooked and run for safety.
As always, reply to this email if you have any questions or comments about the above information!
Stay Comfy,
Tanya
